How to best prepare for your spray tan!

Spray Tanning Tips

1. Exfoliation

Dead skin cells cause streaking and flaking after a spray tan. We suggest using a physical exfoliant like a loofah, dry brush, or even a washcloth for the 2 days before your appointment.

This will help to remove the dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth and ready to absorb the tanning solution.

*Dot use chemical ingredients retinol and glycolic acid at least 24 hours before your tan. These chemicals can prevent the tanning solution from absorbing into your skin or cause exfoliation fo your tan.

2. Shave

While shaving before your appointment isn’t obligatory, shaving up to 24 hours after a spray tan can remove the spray tan solution.

If you shave before your spray tan, leave at least 24 hours before your appointment to allow skin and pores to recover. Similarly, allow 24 hours between waxing and spray tanning, because waxing opens up the pores, leaving an uneven tint.

3. Shower

The most important step we can recommend in your spray tan process is showering exactly 8 hours before your appointment.

This allows your body time to resume its natural pH level while at the same time offering all the benefits of exfoliation.

Remember - No Moisturizer after you shower! See below

4. Wear Loose Clothes & Flip-Flops

Our most common question is “what should I wear to my appointment?” We recommend wearing dark, loose-fitting clothing and flip-flops that will have the lowest chance of rubbing against your skin.

Tight bras, shirts, pants, or shoes can cause tan irregularities if worn immediately after your appointment. Our organic solution is formulated does not stain clothing, but just to be sure, don’t wear white or light garments.

5. What Do I Wear During My Spray Tan?

If you plan on wearing undergarments during the spray process, be sure to wear something that lines up with your bathing suit lines. We recommend wearing nothing or our disposable undergarments.

Our tanning is done in a completely private room away from the studio, providing the utmost discretion.

6. We recommend having your nails painted.

Another insider tip is to paint your nails before your spray tan. Nail polish helps to prevent discoloration around your nails and cuticles. If you decide to not paint your nails, we can provide you with a cream barrier to prevent discoloration.

7. Avoid Makeup, Deodorant, and Moisturizer

Acting as a barrier to prevent your skin’s absorption of the spray tanning solution, makeup and deodorant should not be worn during your appointment.

Should you have any on, please alert your technician who can provide you with makeup remover. Avoid using moisturizer after your pre-appointment shower, as it will disrupt your skin’s absorption of the tanning solution.

8. Communicate with Your Professional!

Communicating with your technician is the best way to ensure your spray tan meets or exceeds your expectations. Be sure to talk with them about things such as the tan tone and glow you are looking for.

If you have any dry skin areas, wounds, or allergies, this is important information to share with your tech. Chances are your spray tan technician has dealt with similar questions and concerns before and knows just how to adjust their work to provide you with the best results.
